April 4, 2009

The Chicago White Sox face the Kansas City Royals in their home opener on Monday, April 6 at 1:05 p.m. and CTA provides several travel options for fans of the South Side ballclub. Traveling on CTA is a convenient option for baseball fans attending games at U.S. Cellular Field all season long.

The Red Line provides direct service to the accessible Sox-35th station, just steps away from the ballpark.  Red Line trains operate between Howard and 95th Street. Free connections can be made from Purple and Yellow Line trains at Howard, from all elevated lines serving the Loop or from Brown Line trains at Belmont and Fullerton. Customers are advised that per standard procedure, the escalators at the Sox-35th station will be turned off in order to safely accommodate the large number of riders coming in and out of the station. Elevators will be available for customer use.

The Green Line also provides a convenient travel option to U.S. Cellular Field. The accessible Green Line station at 35th-Bronzeville-IIT is a few blocks east of the park. Fans can walk to the ballpark or transfer to #35 35th buses, which stop at the park.  Green Line trains operate on the South Side from 63rd/Ashland and East 63rd/Cottage Grove, and Lake and Harlem in Oak Park.

U.S. Cellular Field is also served by #35 35th buses that stop at 35th Street stations on the Green, Orange and Red Lines.

On weekdays through early evening, #24 Wentworth buses serve the stadium from Clark Street downtown, and from 79th via Vincennes, Wentworth and LaSalle. #29 State buses that operate on State Street between the Red Line terminal at 95th Street and Navy Pier provide another nearby travel option.

Bus customers who use CTA fare media pay $2.00 to ride. For rail customers or customers who pay cash on the bus, the fare is $2.25. Customers who use CTA fare media may transfer for a 25 cent fee. Transfers are not available for customers paying fares in cash.
