CTA customers on the O'Hare branch of the Blue Line will use shuttle buses between the Damen and California stations Saturday and into early Sunday while workmen dismantle the station at Western for reconstruction. The work involves using a crane over the structure and will affect service from 7 a.m. Saturday, March 3, until 10 a.m. Sunday, March 4.
During this time, Blue Line train operations will be disrupted between the Damen and California stations, and shuttle buses will serve customers traveling in both directions, making stops at the Damen, Western and California stations.
Customers should allow 15 to 30 minutes extra travel time for their trips.
Assistance will be provided for customers with baggage to make connections from trains on the station platforms to shuttle buses on the streets below. Paratransit vehicles will be available for customers with disabilities to travel between the Clark/Lake subway station and the Harlem/Higgins station, which are both accessible.
From midnight Friday, March 2, until 7 a.m. Saturday, March 3, and again from 10 a.m. until midnight Sunday, March 4, additional construction work at the Western/O'Hare branch station will require trains to operate alternately in both directions on a single track between the Damen and Western stations. During this period, trains will run every 15 minutes in both directions.
