CTA CATERS TO TASTE OF CHICAGO VISITORS WITH EXTRA BUS AND RAIL SERVICE JUNE 30 – JULY 9

June 30, 2000
06/30/00

At a ribbon-cutting ceremony today, Chicago Transit Authority President Frank Kruesi and Chicago Department of Transportation Commissioner Judith Rice officially opened the Red Line State Street subway entrance at Jackson/Van Buren. The renovation work was completed by CDOT as part of their State Street Subway Renovation Project. The $6.5 million renovation project includes a new larger mezzanine featuring a mosaic cityscape wall scene, granite flooring and an ADA accessible elevator. This re-opened station will serve as a gateway for CTA customers traveling downtown.

Visitors to the Taste of Chicago Festival in Grant Park Friday, June 30, through Sunday, July 9, will find CTA service the most effective way to travel. Longer 'L' trains will operate into the Loop until late every evening, and extra buses will be available toward the close of each evening's activities to carry riders home.

More extensive service will be available on Monday evening, July 3, for spectators attending the fireworks display in Grant Park. All customers heading for Taste and the fireworks are encouraged to purchase Transit Cards in advance that have sufficient value for round trips so they can speed their trips in and out of the downtown area.

Highlights of extra service are as follows:
