Refunds available through December 31, 2008
The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) reminds customers who are qualified for the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) People with Disabilities Ride Free Program that the deadline for refunds for the remaining balances on unexpired reduced-fare media cards is Wednesday, December 31.
Refunds are available for customers who are enrolled in the RTA’s People with Disabilities Ride Free Program with a Circuit Permit from the RTA, an RTA issued Reduced Fare Disabled or a Paratransit Permit that they no longer plan to use.
Cash refunds will be available only by visiting the CTA Sales Center. Customers must present their RTA Reduced Fare Permit (Disabled or Paratransit) along with any qualified fare media.
The refund value of monthly passes will be prorated; refund value for other eligible fare media will be given at-cost.
Customers can check the remaining balance of their reduced-fare media at any of the passenger information units near the Customer Assistance kiosks in most CTA rail stations; by calling 1-888-YOUR-CTA (1-888-968-7282) Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. – 8 p.m.; or by visiting the CTA Sales Center at 567 W. Lake St., Monday through Friday 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
The RTA People with Disabilities Ride Free Program went into effect on October 24. Since then, CTA has issued more than $8,000 in refunds to 331 customers.
Customers who do not currently have permits but are interested in participating in the People with Disabilities Ride Free Program need to apply for the RTA issued Circuit Permit. To be eligible, they must be an Illinois resident and enrolled in the State of Illinois Circuit Breaker Program as a person with a disability.
