The Chicago Transit Authority will reroute its Brown and Orange Line elevated train service over Wells Street for the three remaining weekends in October while scaffolding is removed from a building at Randolph and Wells. Last March, a scaffold was erected at the building at 188 West Randolph when pieces of its fa?ade started to fall off.
For safety reasons, a canopy was also built over the portion of the elevated tracks that run parallel to the building. During the removal process Orange and Brown Line trains will not operate on Wells or Van Buren. As a result, CTA stations at Washington/Wells, Quincy/Wells, LaSalle/Van Buren and Library-State/Van Buren will be closed on the affected weekends. Brown and Orange Line trains will only make stops at stations on the Lake and Wabash sides of the Loop ?L."
The following rail service will be in effect from 5:00 a.m. to Midnight on Saturdays and from 7:30 a.m. to Midnight on Sundays:
Brown Line'southbound trains arriving at the Merchandise Mart will proceed across the Chicago River, turn east at Lake Street and south on Wabash. They will follow the Orange Line route through the Loop and south all the way to Midway Airport.
Orange Line?Trains from Midway Airport arriving in the Loop will travel north on Wabash past Van Buren. They will stop at all stations on Wabash and Lake west to Clark/Lake. From there, they will follow the Brown Line route to Kimball.
A bus shuttle will be in place to transport customers through the area affected by the suspended train service. The shuttle will be in place during the same rail service hours mentioned above. Shuttle routing will begin southbound on Clark Street, just south of Lake Street ? south on Clark ? west on Randolph Street ? south on LaSalle Street ? east on Jackson Boulevard ? north on Michigan Avenue ? west on Adams Street ? north on Franklin Street ? east on Lake Street ? south on Clark to original location. The running time for the bus shuttle is approximately 11 minutes.
Because the work is being done on weekends only, weekday-only bus routes affected in March when the scaffold was built will not be affected.
