CUBS AND SOX HOME GAMES AN EASY FLY ON CTA’S RED LINE

March 27, 2001
April will bring the start of another baseball season in Chicago, and fans will find the CTA's Red Line a sure hit to take them within flyball range of the action, whether they?re heading to the friendly Cub confines at Wrigley Field or the home of the White Sox at Comiskey Park.

The Cubs open their 2001 home season Monday, April 2, with a 1:20 p.m. game against the Montreal Expos, where the easiest way to reach Wrigley Field will be by taking a Red Line train to the fully accessible Addison station, which is just across Sheffield Avenue from the right field stands.

The Red Line also serves Comiskey Park, at 35th and Shields, where the White Sox will host the Detroit Tigers for the first home game of the 2001 season on Friday, April 6, at 3:05 p.m. The Red Line station at Sox-35th, which was recently improved to make it accessible to customers with disabilities, is just across Wentworth Avenue from the left field stands.

Customers can connect to Red Line trains from all other 'L' lines and most east-west bus routes. For Cubs fans, trains take only 15 to 17 minutes to reach Addison from stations in the State Street subway downtown. Travel time is about the same from Howard, where fans can connect from the Purple or Yellow Lines.

For White Sox fans, the trip from the State Street subway downtown to Sox-35th takes only about 10 to 12 minutes, and from 95th, around 18 minutes.

Besides the Red Line, Wrigley Field is also served by accessible #22 Clark buses that operate north through the Loop on Dearborn and south on Clark from Howard, and by #152 Addison buses that run east and west on Addison from Lake Shore to Cumberland. For night games, starting April 16, CTA's #154 Wrigley Field Express buses will provide service from parking lots at Lane Tech and DeVry Institute near Addison and Western directly to the park.

Comiskey Park is served by accessible #35 35thbuses, which connect with both the Green and Orange Lines from stations at 35th. On weekdays through early evening, #24 Wentworth buses serve the park from Clark Street downtown, and from 79th via Vincennes, Wentworth and LaSalle.
