Blue Line – Events Affecting Service
Late Night Boarding Changes at Addison and Belmont this Weekend
All late night Blue Line trains will be routed to operate on the northbound (to O’Hare) tracks at the Addison and Belmont stations during the following times this weekend due to crews performing work associated with the station renewal project:
- 10 p.m. Friday, April 13 until 5 a.m. the following morning
- 10 p.m. Saturday, April 14 until 6 a.m. the following morning
- 10 p.m. Sunday, April 15 until 4 a.m. the following morning
During these times, Blue Line customers at the Addison and Belmont stations must board and exit trains from the northbound (to O’Hare) side of the platform.
CTA operators will announce the direction of each train. Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.
Late Night Boarding Changes Next Week Due to Subway Sewer Cleaning
All late night Blue Line trains will be routed to operate on the northbound (to O’Hare) tracks between the Damen and Clark/Lake stations from 10 p.m. each night until 4 a.m. the following morning beginning Monday night, April 16 through Friday morning, April 20, due to subway sewer cleaning work.
During these times, southbound (to Forest Park) customers at the Division, Chicago and Grand stations must board and exit trains from the northbound (to O’Hare) side of the platform.
CTA operators will announce the direction of each train. Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.
Red Line – Events Affecting Service
Late Night Boarding Changes between North/Clybourn and Lake this Weekend
To allow crews to perform work associated with the station renewal project, all late night Red Line trains will be routed to operate on the same tracks between the North/Clybourn and Lake stations this weekend.
Friday Night – Affecting Southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) Trains
From 11 p.m. Friday, April 13 until 5 a.m. the following morning, southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) customers at the Clark/Division station must board and exit trains from the northbound (to Howard) side of the platform. Southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) customers at the Chicago and Grand stations must board and exit trains from the northbound (to Howard) platform.
Saturday Night – Affecting Northbound (to Howard) Trains
From 11 p.m. Saturday, April 14 until 6 a.m. the following morning, northbound (to Howard) customers at the Grand and Chicago stations must board and exit trains from the southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) platform. Northbound (to Howard) customers at the Clark/Division station must board and exit trains from the southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) side of the platform.
CTA operators will announce the direction of each train. Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.
Special Event Service Details
#19 United Center Express Service to the United Center
CTA will operate its #19 United Center Express for those attending the following events at the United Center next week:
- Monday, April 16 at 7 p.m. – Washington Wizards versus Bulls
- Tuesday, April 17 at 8 p.m. – Game #3: Phoenix Coyotes versus Blackhawks
- Thursday, April 19 at 7 p.m. – Game #4: Phoenix Coyotes versus Blackhawks
- Saturday, April 21 at 7 p.m. – Dallas Mavericks versus Bulls
Buses will leave every 12-15 minutes from Michigan and Randolph beginning 90 minutes before the start of each event. After each event, #19 buses will await customers on the north side of the United Center eastbound on Madison near Gate 3 and will depart approximately every 15 minutes for one hour.
New/Updated Changes in Bus Service
Sewer Repair Work Temporarily Detours #63W West 63rd Buses
Currently in effect until approximately 3:30 p.m. Friday, May 4, #63W West 63rd buses are being detoured due to the closure of 63rd Street between Sayre and Nottingham for sewer repair work.
Westbound #63W buses are traveling over the regular route along 63rd Street to Narragansett then are operating via Narragansett, 65th Street, Harlem to 63rd Street and then resuming the regular route. Eastbound #63W buses are traveling the reverse route.
Race to Wrigley 5K Run Detours Four CTA Routes on Saturday
From 7:30 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. Saturday, April 14, #9 Ashland, #22 Clark, #80 Irving Park and #152 Addison buses will be detoured due to the closure of Addison Street between Clark and Ravenswood; Irving Park Road between Seminary and Ravenswood; and Clark Street between Irving Park and Addison for the Race to Wrigley 5K Run.
Northbound #9 buses will travel over the regular route along Ashland to Belmont then will operate via Belmont, Damen, Addison to Lincoln before turning to begin southbound service. From Addison/Lincoln, southbound #9 buses will travel southeast on Lincoln to Ashland then will operate south on Ashland over the regular route.
Southbound #22 buses will operate over the regular route along Clark to Montrose then will travel via Montrose, Broadway, Halsted to Clark and resume the regular route. Northbound #22 buses will travel the reverse route.
Eastbound #80 buses will travel over the regular route along Irving Park to Damen then will operate via Damen, Montrose, Sheridan to Irving Park and then resume the regular route. Westbound #80 buses will travel the reverse route.
Eastbound #152 Addison buses will operate over the regular route along Addison to Lincoln then will travel via Lincoln, Belmont, Sheffield to Addison and resume the regular route. Westbound #152 buses will travel the reverse route.
Helicopter Lift Detours #151 Sheridan Buses Saturday Morning
From 9 a.m. until noon on Saturday, April 14, #151 Sheridan buses will be detoured due to the closure of Inner Lake Shore Drive between Scott and Elm and Division Street between Astor and Inner Lake Shore Drive due to a helicopter lift.
Northbound #151 buses will travel over the regular route along Michigan to Oak then will operate via Oak, Clark, LaSalle Drive to Stockton and then resume the regular route. Southbound #151 buses will travel over the regular route along Stockton to LaSalle Drive then will operate via LaSalle Drive, Clark, Chicago to Michigan and then resume the regular route.
Elimination of #8A South Halsted and #79 79th Bus Stops
Effective at 6 a.m. Tuesday, April 17, the following bus stops served by #8A South Halsted and #79 79th buses will be removed from service:
- 79th Street/Fielding: westbound near side stop
- 79th Street/Parnell: eastbound near side stop
Ongoing Bus Service Changes
New Routing for #24 Wentworth Buses Traveling to 87th/Racine Only
Currently in effect until further notice, the routing of #24 Wentworth buses traveling to 87th Street/Racine only has been changed on a trial basis to serve the new businesses along Holland Road, in response to customer feedback.
As a result, southbound and northbound #24 buses (to 87th Street/Racine) are no longer operating on Vincennes between 83rd and 87th streets. Instead, southbound buses are traveling over the regular route along Vincennes to 83rd Street, then operating via 83rd Street, Princeton/Holland, 87th Street to Vincennes and continuing west on 87th Street over the regular route. Northbound buses will travel the reverse.
Weekdays Only: Temporary Change in Routing for Northbound #147 Buses
Currently in effect until further notice, from 1 p.m. until 7 p.m. on weekdays only northbound #147 Outer Drive Express buses will undergo a temporary change in routing due to heavy traffic congestion on Congress between Michigan and State.
From 1 p.m. until 7 p.m. on weekdays only, northbound #147 buses will travel over the regular route along Congress to Michigan then will operate via Michigan, Van Buren to State and then resume the regular route.
During all other hours of operation, northbound #147 buses will operate over the regular route via Congress to State.
Southbound #147 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
Water Main Work Temporarily Detours Westbound #96 Lunt Buses
Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Monday, April 16, westbound #96 Lunt buses are being detoured due to the closure of the westbound lanes of Lunt Avenue between Sheridan and Ashland for water main installation work.
Westbound #96 buses are traveling over the regular route along Morse to Sheridan then are operating via Sheridan, Pratt, Ashland to Lunt and then resuming the regular route. Eastbound #96 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
Temporary Removal of #66 Chicago Bus Stop at Chicago/Wabash
Currently in effect until approximately 5 a.m. Wednesday, April 18, the eastbound near side stop at Chicago/Wabash served by #66 Chicago buses has been temporarily removed from service due to a nearby ComEd project.
#8 Halsted and #132 Goose Island Express Buses Detoured for Bridge Work
Currently in effect until approximately 6 p.m. Monday, April 30, #8 Halsted and #132 Goose Island Express buses are being detoured due to the closure of the North Halsted Bridge over the north branch of the Chicago River for repair work.
Northbound #8 buses are traveling over the regular route along Halsted to Chicago then are operating via Chicago, Larrabee, Division to Halsted and then resuming the regular route. Southbound #8 buses are traveling the reverse route.
Northbound #132 buses are operating over the regular route along Halsted to Chicago then are traveling via Chicago, Larrabee, Division to Cherry and then resuming the regular route. Southbound #132 buses are operating over the regular route along North Branch to Division then are traveling via Division, Larrabee, Chicago to Halsted and then resuming the regular route.
Sewer Repair Work Detours #77 Belmont Buses between Oak Park and Harlem
Currently in effect until approximately 6 p.m. Monday, April 30, #77 Belmont buses are being detoured due to the closure of Belmont Avenue between Oak Park and Harlem for sewer repair work.
Westbound #77 buses are traveling over the regular route along Belmont to Oak Park then are operating via Oak Park, Diversey, Harlem to Belmont and resuming the regular route. Eastbound #77 buses are traveling the reverse route.
Bridge Repair Work Temporarily Detours #79 79th Buses
Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Friday, May 11, #79 79th buses are being detoured due to the closure of the westbound lanes of 79th Street between Greenwood and Woodlawn avenues for bridge repair work.
Westbound #79 buses are traveling over the regular route along 79th Street to Stony Island then are operating via Stony Island, 83rd Street, Cottage Grove to 79th Street and then resuming the regular route. Eastbound #79 buses are traveling the reverse route.
Service Adjustments Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project
Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project, Franklin Street between Harrison and Van Buren and Lower Wacker Drive between Randolph and Harrison are closed until May. As a result of these closures and other street reconfigurations, the following changes in bus service currently are in effect:
#11 Lincoln/Sedgwick
Northbound #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick buses are traveling over the regular route along Harrison to Canal then are operating via Canal, Jackson to Franklin and resuming the regular route. Southbound #11 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
The following temporary changes also have been made to bus stops served by northbound #11 buses:
- Canal/Harrison: a far side stop has been added to service.
- Canal/Jackson: a near side stop has been added to service.
- Jackson at the Chicago River: a near side stop has been added to service.
- 404 W. Harrison: the mid-block stop has been removed from service.
- Franklin/Van Buren: the far side stop has been removed from service.
#121 Union/Wacker Express
Northbound #121 Union/Wacker Express buses are operating over the regular route along Jackson past Wacker to Franklin then are traveling via Franklin, Lake, Post Place to Lower Wacker and then resuming the regular route.
Southbound #121 buses are operating over the regular route along Grand to Wabash then traveling via Wabash, Wacker, Franklin to Adams and then resuming the regular route.
#135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express buses are traveling south on Wacker to Jackson then are traveling east on Jackson past Franklin and resuming the regular route.
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #135 buses:
- Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
- Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
#136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express buses are operating south on Wacker to Van Buren then are traveling via Van Buren, Canal to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #136 buses:
- Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
- Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
#156 LaSalle (PM Service Only)
During the evening rush period only, northbound #156 LaSalle buses departing from Union Station are traveling west on Van Buren to Wacker then are operating via Wacker to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
The following temporary bus stop change has been made and is in effect for northbound #156 buses during the evening rush period only:
- Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
Temporary Removal of #29 State Bus Stop at State/Pershing
Currently in effect until Friday, June 1, the southbound far side stop at State/Pershing has been removed from service due to nearby construction work. Customers are advised to board southbound #29 buses one block south at 40th Street.
Bus Stop at Archer/Cicero Temporarily Removed from Service
Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Monday, June 4, the southbound far side bus stop at Archer/Cicero will be temporarily removed from service due to the demolition of a nearby building. This stop is currently served by #62 Archer and #62H Archer/Harlem buses.
During this time, customers can board southbound #62 buses at the existing near side stop at Archer/Cicero. Southbound #62H buses will serve the existing stop located at Archer/Lamon.
Wacker Drive Stage III Work Affecting 18 Downtown CTA Bus Routes
Currently in effect, 18 CTA bus routes that operate in the downtown area near Adams and Monroe streets at Wacker Drive are operating under temporary service changes, due to work associated with Stage III of the Wacker Drive construction project.
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time along these routes:

Bus Stop Changes Due to Kedzie Bridge Reconstruction Work
Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Monday, October 1, the following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by #52A South Kedzie, #67 67th/69th/71st and #94 South California due to reconstruction work on the Kedzie Avenue Bridge between Marquette and 71st Street:
#52A South Kedzie
- Kedzie/Marquette: the northbound far side stop has been temporarily relocated to a westbound near side stop on Marquette at Kedzie.
- Kedzie/71st Street: the southbound far side stop has been temporarily removed from service.
#67 67th/69th/71st
- 71st Street/Kedzie: the westbound near side stop has been temporarily relocated to a far side stop.
#94 South California
- 71st Street/Kedzie: the westbound stop has been temporarily removed from service.
Temporary Relocation of #72 North Avenue Bus Stop
Currently in effect until approximately 6 p.m. Monday, April 23, 2013, the westbound near side stop at North Avenue/Washtenaw has been relocated to a far side stop. This stop is served by #72 North Avenue buses.
Temporary Relocation of Bus Stop at Lake Park/53rd Street
Currently in effect until 4 p.m. Thursday, May 2, 2013, the southbound near side stop at Lake Park/53rd Street has been temporarily relocated to a far side stop due to nearby construction work. This stop is served by #6 Jackson Park Express, #X28 Stony Island Express and #171 U of C/Hyde Park buses.
Relocation of #36 Broadway Bus Stop Due to Nearby Construction
Currently in effect until Friday, July 12, 2013, the southbound near side stop at Broadway/Elmdale served by #36 Broadway buses has been relocated to a far side stop due to nearby construction.
Removal of Bus Stop Change Affects Five Routes
Currently in effect until Thursday, August 1, 2013, the mid-block bus stop located at 5800 South Stony Island has been temporarily removed due to construction. This stop is served by the #2 Hyde Park Express, #6 Jackson Park Express, #15 Jeffery Local, #28 Stony Island and #X28 Stony Island Express buses.
