Blue Line – Slow Zone Work
Rail Service Temporarily Suspended in Dearborn Subway This Weekend
Rail service between the Blue Line’s Clark/Lake and UIC-Halsted stations temporarily will be suspended from 10 p.m. Friday, September 25 until 4 a.m. Monday, September 28, as work continues this weekend to replace track in the south end of the Dearborn subway.
Bus shuttles will operate as a substitute for rail service making stops adjacent to the Clark/Lake, Washington, Monroe, Jackson, LaSalle, Clinton and UIC-Halsted stations. Southbound buses will travel along Clark and Van Buren and northbound buses will operate via Harrison and Dearborn.
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.
Trains Undergo Late Night Single Track Next Week at the Harlem Station
A late night single track will be in effect for eastbound Blue Line trains at the Harlem station on the Forest Park branch from 9 p.m. each night until 4 a.m. the following morning beginning Monday, September 28 through Thursday morning, October 1.
During these times, eastbound Blue Line customers at the Harlem station must board and exit trains from the westbound side of the platform.
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
Two-Phase Single Track in Effect between the Forest Park and Austin Stations
A two-phase single track will be in effect for eastbound Blue Line trains between the Forest Park and Austin stations on the Forest Park branch beginning Thursday night, October 1.
Phase I – Forest Park to Oak Park
From 9 p.m. Thursday, October 1 until 1 a.m. the following morning, eastbound Blue Line customers at the Harlem station must board and exit trains from the westbound side of the platform.
Phase II – Forest Park to Austin
From 1 a.m. until 4 a.m. Friday, October 2, eastbound Blue Line customers at the Harlem and Oak Park stations must board and exit trains from the westbound side of the platform.
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
Red Line – Slow Zone Work
Reroute in Effect for Red Line Trains at Sheridan on Saturday
Northbound and southbound Red Line trains will be rerouted at the Sheridan station from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturday, September 26, while crews replace deteriorated rail ties, tie plates and spikes.
During this time, northbound and southbound Red Line trains will operate on the Purple Express tracks. Customers at the Sheridan station must board and exit trains from the outer platforms instead of the inner platforms.
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.
Next Week
Work to reduce slow zones near the Sheridan Red Line station continues next week resulting in a reroute of northbound and southbound trains from 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. each day beginning Tuesday, September 29 through Friday, October 2.
During these times, northbound and southbound Red Line trains will operate on the Purple Express tracks. Customers at the Sheridan station must board and exit trains from the outer platforms instead of the inner platforms.
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.
Late Night Single Track in Effect between the Roosevelt and Grand Stations
From 11 p.m. Thursday, October 1 until 3 a.m. the following morning, a late night single track will be in effect for northbound Red Line trains between the Roosevelt and Grand stations.
Northbound Red Line customers at the Roosevelt, Harrison, Jackson, Monroe and Lake stations must board and exit trains from the southbound side of the platform.
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
Blue Line – Other Events Affecting Service
Changes to Circle Avenue Exit at the Harlem Station on Forest Park Branch
On Saturday, September 26 from 6 a.m. until 4 p.m., the Circle Avenue exit to the Harlem station on the Forest Park branch of the Blue Line temporarily will be closed while it is converted to an auxiliary entrance/exit. During this time, customers must use the station’s main entrance/exit on Harlem Avenue to access the Blue Line.
Upon reopening, Circle Avenue will be a farecard-only auxiliary entrance/exit. Only customers using Chicago Card, Chicago Card Plus or magnetic strip transit cards with sufficient value to travel on the system will be able to use this entrance.
Customers who do not have a stored value farecard or need to add value to their fare media will need to enter through the main Harlem station entrance where fare card vending machines are available.
Red/Brown Lines – Other Events Affecting Service
Red and Brown Line Trains Rerouted at Fullerton and Belmont This Weekend
A continuous reroute will be in effect for Red and Brown line trains at the Fullerton and Belmont stations this weekend due to work on the platform canopies. Northbound Red and Brown line trains temporarily will be rerouted to operate on the southbound tracks from 6 a.m. Saturday, September 26 until 6 p.m. Sunday, September 27.
Northbound Red and Brown line customers at the Fullerton and Belmont stations must board and exit trains from the southbound Red Line side of the platform. Southbound Red Line customers at these stations must board and exit trains from the southbound Brown Line side of the platform.
During this time, northbound Brown Line trains will be unable to stop at Diversey and Wellington. Northbound Brown Line customers who want to exit at Diversey or Wellington should ride to Belmont and transfer to a southbound train to their respective station. Customers at Diversey and Wellington who want to travel north should take a southbound train to Fullerton and transfer to a northbound train.
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the route and direction of each train.
Two Elevators Out of Service for Scheduled Maintenance
Montrose/Brown Line: Elevator to Northbound Platform Out of Service on Tuesday
Due to scheduled elevator maintenance work, the elevator on the northbound platform at the Montrose Brown Line station will be closed from 5 a.m. Tuesday, September 29 until 5 a.m. Wednesday, September 30.
During this time, northbound Brown Line customers who want to exit at Montrose and need elevator access should ride to Damen and board a southbound train back to Montrose. Northbound customers boarding at Montrose who need elevator access should take the elevator to the southbound platform and board southbound train to the Irving Park station, then transfer to a northbound train.
Davis/Purple Line: Elevator to Northbound Platform Out of Service on Tuesday
The elevator on the northbound platform at the Davis Purple Line station also will be closed from 5 a.m. Tuesday, September 29 until 5 a.m. Wednesday, September 30, due to scheduled elevator maintenance work.
During this time, northbound Purple Line customers who want to exit at Davis and need elevator access should ride to Foster and board a southbound train back to Davis. Northbound customers boarding at Davis who need elevator access should take the elevator to the southbound platform and board a southbound train to the South Boulevard station, then transfer to a northbound train.
Additional Service for Special Events
#19 United Center Express Serves Upcoming Concert
CTA will operate its #19 United Center Express buses for the How Sweet the Sound concert at the United Center on Wednesday, September 30. The event begins at 7:30 p.m.
Buses will leave every 10 minutes from Michigan and Randolph beginning 90 minutes before the start of the event until the starting time of the event. When the event ends, #19 buses will depart the United Center approximately every 15 minutes for one hour.
#19 buses no longer make stops along Michigan Avenue north of Randolph, but continue to make all stops on Madison from Wabash to Clinton. From Clinton, #19 buses run express to the United Center.
After the event, #19 buses will await customers on the north side of the United Center eastbound on Madison near Gate 3. On the return trip, #19 buses will operate east on Washington to Wacker, then head south to Monroe and east to Michigan, making all stops from Jefferson to Michigan before turning north on Michigan and making the final stop at Randolph.
Extended Service Hours for #10 Museum of Science & Industry Buses for Harry Potter Exhibit
To accommodate extended hours for the Harry Potter exhibit at the Museum of Science & Industry, buses traveling along the #10 Museum of Science & Industry route will provide evening service on Friday, September 25 and extended hours of operation on Saturday, September 26.
The exhibit will be open until midnight on both nights. Northbound #10 buses will operate every 30 minutes with the last bus leaving the museum at approximately 12:40 a.m. Southbound buses also will operate every 30 minutes until approximately 10:25 p.m.
New/Updated Changes in Bus Service
Phase III of 75th Street Sewer Project Detours #75 74th/75th Buses
Currently in effect until 5 p.m. Monday, October 19, 75th Street between King Drive and Eberhart will be closed to all traffic due to sewer construction work.
Eastbound #75 74th/75th buses will operate over the regular route along 75th Street to King Drive then will travel via King Drive, 76th Street, St. Lawrence to 75th Street and then resume the regular route.
Westbound #75 buses will travel over the regular route along 75th Street to Lawrence then will operate via Lawrence, 73rd Street, King Drive to 75th Street and then resume the regular route.
#72 North Bus Stop Temporarily Removed From Service
Currently in effect until Sunday, October 11, the westbound near side stop at North Avenue/Bosworth served by #72 North buses temporarily will be removed from service due to sidewalk replacement work.
Lakeview East Fine Arts Festival Detours #36 Broadway Buses This Weekend
From 7 p.m. Friday, September 25 until 5 a.m. Monday, September 28, Broadway between Belmont and Roscoe will be closed for the Lakeview East Fine Arts Festival.
Northbound #36 Broadway buses will operate over the regular route along Broadway to Belmont then will travel via Belmont, Halsted, Addison to Broadway and then resume the regular route. Southbound #36 buses will travel the reverse route.
Lawndale 5K Walk/Run Detours #82 Kimball/Homan Buses on Saturday
On Saturday, September 26 from 8 a.m. to noon, Central Park between Ogden and Roosevelt will be closed to all traffic due to the Lawndale 5K Walk/Run.
Northbound #82 Kimball/Homan buses will travel over the regular route along Central Park to Cermak then will operate via Cermak, Pulaski, Roosevelt to Homan and then resume the regular route. Southbound #82 buses will travel the reverse route.
Chinese National Day Parade Detours #21 Cermak Buses on Sunday
Cermak Road between Princeton and Wentworth will be closed to all traffic from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 27, due to the Chinese National Day parade.
Eastbound #21 Cermak buses will operate over the regular route along Cermak to Archer then will travel via Archer, Clark to Cermak then resume the regular route. Westbound buses will travel the reverse route.
Changes to Bus Stops Effective Tuesday
Effective at the start of service on Tuesday, September 29, the following changes will be made to bus stops along the subsequent routes:
#11 Lincoln/Sedgwick
The southbound near side stop at Wells/Van Buren will be removed from service.
#18 16th/18th
The westbound near side stop at 18th Street/Paulina will be relocated to the Pink Line station.
#49 Western
The southbound near side stop at Western/Polk will be relocated to a far side stop.
#68 Northwest Highway
- Northwest Highway/Nagle: the southbound and northbound near side stops will be relocated to far side stops.
- Northwest Highway/McVicker: the southbound and northbound stops will be removed from service.
- Northwest Highway/Central: the southbound near side stop will be relocated to a far side stop.
#77 Belmont
- Belmont/Damen: the westbound and eastbound near side stops will be relocated to far side stops.
- Belmont/Leavitt: the westbound and eastbound nearside stops will be relocated to far side stops.
Changes to #53 Pulaski Bus Stops Effective Wednesday
The following changes will be made to bus stops along the #53 Pulaski route at the start of service on Wednesday, September 30:
- Pulaski/Polk: the northbound near side stop will be relocated to a far side stop.
- Pulaski/Irving Park: the northbound and southbound near side stops will be relocated to far side stops.
- Pulaski/Berteau: the northbound and southbound near side stops will be relocated to far side stops.
- Pulaski/Elston: the northbound near side stop will be relocated to a far side stop.
- Pulaski/Wilson: the northbound and southbound near side stops will be relocated to far side stops.
- Pulaski/Argyle: the northbound near side stop will be relocated to a far side stop.
- Pulaski/Bryn Mawr: the northbound and southbound near side stops will be relocated to far side stops.
- Pulaski/Arthington: the southbound near side stop will be relocated to a far side stop.
Buses Reroute for Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure 5K Run
Balbo will be closed between Michigan and Lake Shore Drive, and Columbus will be closed between Congress Parkway and Roosevelt from 4 a.m. until approximately 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 26 for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure 5K Run/Walk. Nine CTA bus routes will undergo reroutes during this time.
Buses along routes #3 King Drive, #4 Cottage Grove, #6 Jackson Park Express,
#10 Museum of Science & Industry, #14 Jeffery Express, #18 16th/18th, #126 Jackson, #146 Inner Drive/Michigan and #147 Outer Drive Express will reroute to adjacent streets around the area of the event.
The event will step off at 8:30 a.m. from Columbus/Balbo, proceed south to Roosevelt then travel via Roosevelt, Michigan, Balbo, Columbus, Randolph, Columbus to the finish line on Balbo between Columbus and Lake Shore Drive.
Ongoing Bus Reroutes
Reroute for Northbound #86 Narragansett/Ridgeland Buses
Currently in effect until 5 a.m. Monday, September 28, northbound #86 Narragansett/Ridgeland buses will be detoured due to street repairs at the intersection of Montrose/Narragansett. As a result of this detour, northbound #86 buses will not make stops on the Wright College Campus.
Northbound #86 buses will travel over the regular route along Narragansett past Wright College Drive to Montrose where they will make a near side service stop. From Narragansett/Montrose, buses will continue north along Narragansett over the regular route. Southbound #86 buses will travel over the regular route.
Temporary Relocation of #8 Halsted Bus Stop
The southbound far side stop at Halsted/North Branch served by #8 Halsted buses temporarily will be relocated to a near side stop until Thursday, October 1. This bus stop is being relocated due to a traffic signal installation project.
Relocation of #62 Archer Bus Stop
Currently in effect until Friday, October 2, the northbound near side stop at Archer/Kildare served by #62 Archer buses will be relocated to a far side stop due to construction.
Bus Stop at Clark/Lake Temporarily Relocated
Until further notice, the southbound stop at Clark/Lake will be relocated approximately 100 feet south to a mid-block stop on Clark between Lake and Randolph due to façade repair work at the James R. Thompson Center. This stop is served by #22 Clark and #24 Wentworth buses.
#75 74th/75th Bus Stop Changes
Due to sewer construction work, the eastbound and westbound bus stops at 75th Street/Indiana, served by #75 74th/75th buses, will be temporarily removed from service until further notice.
Eastbound customers can board and exit #75 buses from the near side stops at 75th Street/Prairie or 75th Street/Michigan.
Westbound customers can board and exit #75 buses from the near side stops at 75th Street/Michigan or 75th Street/Prairie.
Temporary Change in Routing for #60 Blue Island/26th Buses
Currently in effect until 5 p.m. Friday, October 16, eastbound #60 Blue Island/26th buses only will travel to Randolph/Field, instead of Randolph/Harbor, before turning to begin westbound service. This change in routing is due to reconstruction of a nearby driveway. Westbound #60 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
Westbound Lanes of Division Street Bridge Closed for Repairs
The westbound lanes of the Division Street Bridge over the north branch of the Chicago River, between Halsted and Hooker, are closed to all traffic until 5 p.m. Friday, October 16, due to repair work.
Westbound #70 Division buses will operate over the regular route along Division to Larrabee then will travel via Larrabee, Chicago, Milwaukee, Elston to Division and then resume the regular route. Eastbound #70 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
Southbound #132 Goose Island Express buses will travel over the regular route along Halsted past Division to North Branch Street then will operate via North Branch, Cherry to Division and then resume the regular route. Northbound #132 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
Bridge Reconstruction Work Detours Westbound #96 Lunt Buses
Currently in effect until 6 a.m. Monday, October 26, Touhy Avenue will be closed between Kedzie and McCormick due to bridge reconstruction work.
Westbound #96 Lunt buses will travel over the regular route along Touhy to Kedzie then will operate via Kedzie, Howard to McCormick and then will resume the regular route south of Touhy. Eastbound #96 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
Buses Rerouted on Saturdays for the Near North Farmer’s Market
From 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. every Saturday through October 31, Division Street between State and Clark will be closed for the Near North Farmer’s Market.
Southbound #36 Broadway buses will travel over the regular route along Clark past Division to Maple then will operate via Maple to State and then resume the regular route.
Northbound #36 buses will operate over the regular route along State to Elm then will travel via Elm to Clark and then resume the regular route.
Eastbound #70 Division buses will travel over the regular route along Division to Clark and then will operate via Clark, Maple to Dearborn and then resume the regular route. Westbound #70 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
Buses Rerouted Due to Construction on Milwaukee Avenue
Eastbound #81W West Lawrence and northbound #91 Austin buses will be rerouted until Monday, November 30, due to construction on Milwaukee Avenue between Gale and Montrose.
Eastbound #81W West Lawrence and northbound #91 Austin buses will travel over their regular routes to Lawrence/Milwaukee to a far side stop then will continue eastbound on Lawrence to Lipps, heading north on Lipps to enter the Jefferson Park bus terminal.
Westbound #81W and southbound #91 buses are not affected and will travel along their regular routes.
Northbound #24 Wentworth Buses Detoured Due to LaSalle Street Bridge Work
LaSalle Street between 28th and 26th streets will be closed to all traffic until early-January 2010, due to the reconstruction of the LaSalle Street Bridge. Northbound #24 Wentworth buses will operate over the regular route along LaSalle to 31st Street then will travel via 31st Street, State, 26th Street to Wentworth and then resume the regular route. Southbound #24 buses will travel over the regular route.
Changes to #24 Wentworth Bus Stops
Due to the reconstruction of the LaSalle Street Bridge, the following changes will be made to bus stops served by #24 Wentworth buses:
- LaSalle/31st Street: the northbound far side stop will be relocated to a near side stop.
- Wentworth/26th Street: the northbound near side stop will be relocated to a westbound near side stop at 26th Street/Wentworth.
Lane Restrictions near State and Grand Detour #29 State and #65 Grand Buses
Due to lane restrictions associated with the Grand/State Red Line rehabilitation project at the northwest corner of State Street and Grand Avenue, #29 State and #36 Broadway buses will be detoured to adjacent streets. These changes in service are expected to remain in place until April 2010.
Southbound #29 State buses will operate over the regular route along Grand past State to Clark then will travel via Clark, Illinois to State and then resume the regular route.
Northbound #29 buses will be able to travel on the remaining open lane along State and will operate over its regular route.
Southbound #36 Broadway buses will travel over the regular route along State to Ontario then will operate via Ontario, Clark, Illinois to State and then resume the regular route. Northbound #36 buses will operate over the regular route along Dearborn past Illinois to Ohio then will travel via Ohio to State and then resume the regular route.
14 CTA Bus Routes Affected Due to Jackson Viaduct Work
Due to the reconstruction of the Jackson Boulevard viaduct between Canal and Wacker, changes in service along 14 CTA bus routes are expected to remain in place until April 2010. The following CTA bus routes are being rerouted to adjacent streets:
