Blue Line – Events Affecting Service
Late Night Trains Operating on the Same Tracks at Montrose Early Next Week
All late night Blue Line trains will be routed to operate on the northbound (to O’Hare) tracks at the Montrose station from 11 p.m. each night until 4 a.m. the following morning beginning Sunday night, October 2 through Wednesday morning, October 5, due to track maintenance work.
Southbound (to Forest Park) customers at the Montrose station must board and exit trains from the northbound (to O’Hare) side of the platform.
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
Late Night Two-Phase Single Track Operation in Effect on O’Hare Branch
A two-phase single track operation will be in effect for all late night Blue Line trains serving the Montrose and Irving Park stations beginning Wednesday night, October 5, due to track maintenance work.
Phase I – at Irving Park
From 11 p.m. Wednesday, October 5 until 1 a.m. the following morning, Blue Line customers at the Irving Park station traveling southbound (to Forest Park) must board and exit trains from the northbound (to O’Hare) side of the platform.
Phase II – at Montrose and Irving Park
From 1 a.m. until 4 a.m. Thursday, October 6, Blue Line customers at the Montrose and Irving Park stations traveling southbound (to Forest Park) must board and exit trains from the northbound (to O’Hare) side of the platform.
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
Boarding Changes at the Irving Park Station Thursday Night
As crews continue track maintenance work along the O’Hare branch, all late night Blue Line trains will be routed to operate on the northbound (to O’Hare) tracks between the Addison and Montrose stations from 11 p.m. Thursday, October 6 until 4 a.m. the following morning.
Southbound (to Forest Park) customers at the Irving Park station must board and exit trains from the northbound (to O’Hare) side of the platform.
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
Service for Upcoming Events
CTA Provides Service for the Panthers versus Bears Game this Sunday
Fans heading to the Bears game versus the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, October 2, will find the #128 Soldier Field Express and #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express buses provide affordable and convenient travel options. Kickoff is at noon.
The #128 Soldier Field Express operates non-stop between the Ogilvie Transportation Center, Union Station and Soldier Field. Service will begin at approximately 9:30 a.m. After the game, buses will leave Soldier Field every few minutes for approximately one hour.
The cash fare for #128 buses is $1 for full-fare customers and 50 cents for reduced-fare customers. Exact fare is required. Customers who use CTA fare media on the #128 will be charged a regular CTA bus fare.
In addition, Red, Orange and Green line trains serve customers traveling to and from Soldier Field via the Roosevelt station a few blocks west of the stadium.
Buses Rerouted
In anticipation of heavy traffic along Roosevelt and Lake Shore Drive due to the football game at Soldier Field, the #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express will be detoured from 10:30 a.m. until approximately 4:30 p.m. on Sunday.
Southbound #146 buses will travel over the regular route along Columbus to Lake Shore Drive then will operate via Lake Shore Drive, 18th Street to Museum Campus Drive and then resume the regular route.
Northbound #146 buses will travel over the regular route along Museum Campus Drive to Waldron then will operate via Waldron, Lake Shore Drive to Columbus and then resume the regular route.
New/Updated Changes in Bus Service
#8A South Halsted Buses Detoured Due to a Viaduct Construction Project
Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Tuesday, November 15, #8A South Halsted buses are being detoured due to a viaduct construction project along Halsted Street between 85th and 87th streets.
Southbound #8A buses are traveling over the regular route along Halsted to 85th Street/Summit then are operating via Summit, 87th Street to Halsted and then resuming the regular route.
Northbound #8A buses are traveling over the regular route along Halsted to Vincennes then are operating via Vincennes, Summit to Halsted and then resuming the regular route.
Temporary Relocation of #72 North Bus Stop at North Avenue/Oak Park
Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Tuesday, October 25, the westbound near side stop at North Avenue/Oak Park has been relocated to a mid-block stop roughly 140-feet east of its original location. This stop is served by #72 North buses.
UPDATE: Detour of #111 Pullman/111th/115th Buses for Bridge Repairs Extended
Currently in effect and extended until approximately 4 p.m. Wednesday, November 30,
#111 Pullman/111th/115th buses are being detoured from Cottage Grove between 98th Street and 100th Place due to bridge repair work.
Southbound #111 buses are traveling over the regular route along 95th Street to King Drive then operating via King Drive, 100th Street to Cottage Grove and resuming the regular route. Northbound #111 buses are traveling the reverse route.
Changes to Bus Stops Effective Friday, September 30
Currently in effect, the following changes have been made to bus stops served by #8A Halsted, #30 South Chicago, #82 Kimball/Homan and #108 Halsted/95th buses:

- Halsted/120th Street: the southbound and northbound near side stops have been relocated to far side stops.
- Halsted/123rd Street: the southbound and northbound near side stops have been relocated to far side stops.
#30 South Chicago
- South Chicago/85th Street: the southbound near side stop has been relocated to a far side stop.
#82 Kimball/Homan
- Homan/Division: the southbound near side stop has been relocated to a far side stop.
Design Harvest Event Detours #65 Grand Buses this Weekend
From 1 a.m. Saturday, October 1 until approximately 5 a.m. Monday, October 3, #65 Grand buses will be rerouted due to the closure of Grand Avenue between Damen and Wood for the Design Harvest event.
Eastbound #65 buses will operate over the regular route along Grand to Damen then will operate via Damen, Hubbard, Wood to Grand and then resume the regular route. Westbound #65 buses will travel the reverse route.
14 Bus Routes Detoured for the Open Streets on State Street Event on Saturday

Southbound #62 buses will operate over the regular route along State to Wacker then will travel via Wacker, Michigan, Harrison to State and then resume the regular route. Northbound #62 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
Westbound #124 buses will travel over the regular route along Michigan past Randolph to Madison then will operate via Madison, Dearborn to Randolph and then resume the regular route. Eastbound #124 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
Eastbound #126 buses will operate over the regular route along Jackson to Dearborn then will travel via Dearborn, Monroe, to Michigan and then resume the regular route south past Jackson. Westbound #126 buses will operate over the regular route along Michigan past Adams to Madison then will travel via Madison, Clark to Adams and then resume the regular route.
Northbound #145 buses will travel over the regular route along Congress to State then will operate via Congress, Congress Plaza to Michigan and then resume the regular route past Lake Street. Southbound #145 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
Southbound #146 buses will operate over the regular route along Michigan past Wacker to Congress then will travel via Congress to State and then resume the regular route. Northbound #146 buses will operate over the regular route along State to Congress then will travel via Congress, Congress Plaza to Michigan and then resume the regular route past Lake Street.
Northbound #147 buses will travel over the regular route along Congress to Michigan then will operate via Michigan to Washington and then resume the regular route. Southbound buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
Southbound #151 buses will operate over the regular route along Michigan to Madison then will travel via Madison, Clark to Adams and then resume the regular route. Northbound #151 buses will operate over the regular route along Jackson to Dearborn then will travel via Dearborn, Monroe to Michigan and then resume the regular route past Washington.
Buses Detoured in Grant Park for the AIDS Run & Walk on Saturday
From 7:30 a.m. until approximately 6 p.m. Saturday, October 1, #6 Jackson Park Express, #10 Museum of Science & Industry and #14 Jeffery Express buses will be detoured due to the closure of Columbus Drive between Balbo and Randolph for the AIDS Run & Walk.
Southbound #6 and #10 buses will travel over their regular routes to Michigan/Wacker then will operate via Michigan, Roosevelt to Columbus and then resume their regular routes. Northbound #6 and #10 buses will travel over their regular routes along Columbus to Roosevelt then will operate via Roosevelt to Michigan and then resume their regular routes past Balbo.
Northbound #14 buses will operate over the regular route along Columbus to Roosevelt then will travel via Roosevelt to Michigan and then resume the regular route north past Balbo. Southbound #14 buses will operate the reverse route.
Nigerian Independence Day Parade Detours Four Routes on Saturday
From noon until approximately 1 p.m. Saturday, October 1, #78 Montrose, #81 Lawrence, #145 Wilson/Michigan Express and #151 Sheridan buses will be detoured due to the closure of Sheridan Road between Foster and Montrose for the annual Nigerian Independence Day Parade.
Eastbound #78 buses will travel over the regular route along Wilson to Broadway then will operate via Broadway, Montrose, Clarendon to Wilson and then resume the regular route. Westbound #78 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
Eastbound #81 buses will operate over the regular route along Lawrence to Broadway then will travel via Broadway, Foster, Lake Shore Drive to Wilson and then resume the regular route. Westbound #81 buses will operate over the regular route along Marine past Lawrence to Foster then will travel via Foster, Broadway to Lawrence and then resume the regular route.
Southbound #145 buses will travel over the regular route along Wilson to Broadway then will operate via Broadway, Montrose to Clarendon and then resume the regular route. Northbound #145 buses will travel the reverse route.
Southbound #151 buses will operate over the regular route along Sheridan to Foster then will travel via Foster, Broadway to Sheridan and then resume the regular route. Northbound #151 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
#50 Damen and #73 Armitage Buses Detoured Sunday for the Bucktown 5K
From 8 a.m. until approximately 11 a.m. Sunday, October 2, #50 Damen and #73 Armitage buses will be detoured due to the closure of Damen Avenue between Wabansia and Cortland, Armitage Avenue between Oakley and Hoyne and Cortland Street between Marshfield and Hermitage for the Bucktown 5K. The race will step-off at 8:30 a.m.
Northbound #50 buses will travel over the regular route along Damen to North Avenue then will operate via North Avenue, Ashland, Armitage to Damen and then resume the regular route. Southbound #50 buses will travel the reverse route.
Eastbound #73 buses will operate over the regular route along Armitage to Western then will travel via Western, Fullerton, Damen, Armitage, Hermitage, Elston to Cortland and then resume the regular route. Westbound #73 buses will travel the reverse route.
Ongoing Bus Service Changes
#26 South Shore Express and #30 South Chicago Buses Detoured
Currently in effect until approximately 2 p.m. Sunday, October 16, #26 South Shore Express and #30 South Chicago buses are being detoured due to the closure of the 92nd Street Bridge over the Calumet River for repair work.
Southbound #26 and #30 buses are traveling over their regular routes along 91st Street to Mackinaw then are operating via Mackinaw, Harbor, South Chicago, 95th Street to Ewing and then resuming their regular routes. Northbound #26 and #30 buses are traveling the reverse route.
Near North Farmer’s Market Detours #36 Broadway and #70 Division Buses
From 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. every Saturday through October 29, #36 Broadway and #70 Division buses will be detoured due to the closure of Division Street between State and Clark for the Near North Farmer’s Market.
Southbound #36 buses will travel over the regular route along Clark past Division to Maple then will operate via Maple to State and then resume the regular route. Northbound #36 buses will operate over the regular route along State to Elm then will travel via Elm to Clark and then resume the regular route.
Eastbound #70 buses will travel over the regular route along Division to Clark and then will operate via Clark, Maple to Dearborn and then resume the regular route. Westbound #70 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
Temporary Removal of Bus Stop at Stony Island/83rd Street
Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Friday, November 18, the northbound near side stop at Stony Island/83rd Street has been temporarily removed from service due to a water management construction project. This stop is served by #28 Stony Island and #X28 Stony Island Express buses.
Construction Detours #20 Madison and #90 Harlem Buses Until December
Currently in effect until Friday, December 2, eastbound #20 Madison (Owl service) buses and #90 Harlem buses are being detoured due to the closure of North Boulevard and South Boulevard between Marion and Home for a construction project.
Eastbound #20 (Owl service) buses are operating over the regular route along Harlem past North Boulevard to Washington then are traveling via Washington, Maple, Randolph, Harlem to Lake and resuming the regular route. Westbound #20 (Owl service) buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
Southbound #90 buses are traveling over the regular route along Harlem past North Boulevard to Washington then are operating via Washington, Maple, Randolph, Harlem to Harlem/South Boulevard before beginning northbound service. From Harlem/South Boulevard, northbound #90 buses are traveling north on Harlem over the regular route.
Lane Restrictions near State and Grand Detour #29 State and #36 Broadway Buses
Due to lane restrictions associated with the Grand Red Line rehabilitation project at the northwest corner of State and Grand, #29 State and #36 Broadway buses are being detoured to adjacent streets until further notice.
Southbound #29 buses are operating over the regular route along Grand past State to Clark then traveling via Clark, Illinois to State and resuming the regular route. Northbound #29 buses are traveling along the remaining open lane along State and over the regular route.
Southbound #36 buses are traveling over the regular route along State to Ontario then are operating via Ontario, Clark, Illinois to State and resuming the regular route. Northbound #36 buses are operating over the regular route along Dearborn past Illinois to Ohio then traveling via Ohio to State and resuming the regular route.
Changes in Service along #8 Halsted Route for Bridge Reconstruction Project
Currently in effect until late-December 2011, Halsted Street between Division and the north branch of the Chicago River is closed due to a bridge reconstruction project.
Northbound #8 Halsted buses are traveling over the regular route along Halsted past Chicago to North Branch then are operating via North Branch, Cherry, Division to Halsted and then resuming the regular route. Southbound #8 buses are traveling the reverse route.
Changes to Bus Stops
- Halsted/North Branch: the northbound far side stop on Halsted has been temporarily relocated to a far side stop on North Branch at Halsted.
- Halsted/Division: the southbound far side stop has been temporarily relocated to a near side stop.
Temporary Bus Stop Changes due to Madison Street Viaduct Project
Currently in effect until approximately 3 p.m. Saturday, December 31, the following bus stop changes are in effect due to the Madison Street viaduct project. These changes are affecting service along seven routes.
- Canal/Madison: the northbound far side stop will be removed from service. This stop is served by #60 Blue Island/26th, #124 Navy Pier, #125 Water Tower Express, #129 West Loop/South Loop (PM service only), #130 Museum Campus, #132 Goose Island Express and #157 Streeterville/Taylor buses.
- Canal/Washington: a temporary northbound near side stop will be added. This stop will be served by #132 buses.
Service Changes to 14 Downtown Bus Routes for Stage II of Wacker Drive Project
Currently in effect, changes in service have been made to 14 CTA bus routes that operate in the downtown area near Wacker Drive and Madison due to work associated with Stage II of the Wacker Drive construction project.

Service Adjustments Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project
Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project, Franklin Street between Harrison and Van Buren and Lower Wacker Drive between Randolph and Harrison are closed until May 2012. As a result of these closures and other street reconfigurations, the following changes in bus service currently are in effect:
#11 Lincoln/Sedgwick
Northbound #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick buses are traveling over the regular route along Harrison to Canal then are operating via Canal, Jackson to Franklin and resuming the regular route. Southbound #11 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
The following temporary changes also have been made to bus stops served by northbound #11 buses:
- Canal/Harrison: a far side stop has been added to service.
- Canal/Jackson: a near side stop has been added to service.
- Jackson at the Chicago River: a near side stop has been added to service.
- 404 W. Harrison: the mid-block stop has been removed from service.
- Franklin/Van Buren: the far side stop has been removed from service.
#121 Union/Wacker Express
Northbound #121 Union/Wacker Express buses are operating over the regular route along Jackson past Wacker to Franklin then are traveling via Franklin, Lake, Post Place to Lower Wacker and then resuming the regular route.
Southbound #121 buses are operating over the regular route along Grand to Wabash then traveling via Wabash, Wacker, Franklin to Adams and then resuming the regular route.
#135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express buses are traveling south on Wacker to Jackson then are traveling east on Jackson past Franklin and resuming the regular route.
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #135 buses:
- Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
- Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
#136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express buses are operating south on Wacker to Van Buren then are traveling via Van Buren, Canal to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #136 buses:
- Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
- Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
#156 LaSalle (PM Service Only)
During the evening rush period only, northbound #156 LaSalle buses departing from Union Station are traveling west on Van Buren to Wacker then are operating via Wacker to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
The following temporary bus stop change has been made and is in effect for northbound #156 buses during the evening rush period only:
- Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
Relocation of #36 Broadway Bus Stop Due to Nearby Construction
Currently in effect until Friday, July 12, 2013, the southbound near side stop at Broadway/Elmdale served by #36 Broadway buses has been relocated to a far side stop due to nearby construction.
