Make it One ‘L’ of a Series

June 30, 2011
Take the CTA to Watch Your Favorite Crosstown Rivals Play Ball

The Chicago Transit Authority is a convenient and affordable way to get to Wrigley Field for the Cubs and White Sox second three-game series of the season.  The first game is Friday, July 1 at 1:20 p.m.  The series continues Saturday, July 2 at 3:10 p.m. and concludes Sunday, July 3 at 1:20 p.m.

The Red Line provides direct service to Wrigley Field from the north and south ends of town, via the accessible station at Addison, which is just a short walk from the ballpark.  Fans can transfer to Red Line trains from all other rail lines and from most east-west bus routes.

Riders can board Red Line trains from stations in the State Street subway downtown or from Howard, where fans can connect from Purple or Yellow line trains serving the northern suburbs.  Fans using these stations also can take advantage of convenient Park & Ride lots at Howard, Linden and Skokie.  Those travelling on the Red Line from the south can also board any station on the south branch of the Red Line to the Addison Red Line station.

CTA staff will greet customers outside the turnstiles at the Addison Red Line station where they will hand out commemorative 2011 Crosstown Series posters to customers who use the Red Line.  Distribution will begin at the station 90 minutes prior to the first pitch of all three games. Posters will be handed out for as long as supplies last.

Limited edition farecards are currently being dispensed from farecard vending machines at all CTA rail stations for as long as supplies last.  Chicago artist Steve Musgrave designed the farecards and commemorative posters.

Several CTA bus routes also provide convenient service directly to Wrigley Field:

  • #8 Halsted buses operate north on Halsted from 79th Street to Broadway/Waveland;
  • #22 Clark buses operate north through the Loop on Dearborn and south on Clark from Howard;
  • #152 Addison buses operate on Addison from Cumberland on the west to Lake Shore Drive on the east. For all games, additional service will be provided on the #152 Addison route as crowds warrant, starting 2 ½ hours before game time and operating until one hour after games end.
  • #154 Wrigley Field Express -- for night games and weekends, #154 buses provide direct service to Wrigley Field from parking lots at DeVry University on Rockwell, a quarter-mile west of Western and a quarter-mile south of Addison. Service begins three hours before each game and runs until one hour after night games end, and two hours after weekend games end. A $6 fee includes parking at DeVry and round-trip bus transit for a carload of fans.

Customers who do not park at DeVry but wish to ride to Wrigley Field will be able to board the bus and travel to the ballpark by paying for a round trip regular CTA bus fare.

Bus customers who use CTA fare media pay $2.00 to ride.  For rail customers or customers who pay cash on the bus, the fare is $2.25.  Customers who use CTA fare media may transfer for a 25 cent fee.  Transfers are not available for customers paying fares in cash.
