Four CTA bus routes will be detoured beginning Wednesday, January 2, 2002, for a new phase of the Wacker Drive Reconstruction Project. The detours will result from the closing of Franklin and Clark Streets at Wacker Drive, and of Wacker Place (South Water Street) between Michigan and Wabash.
#6 Jeffery Express buses will be detoured for southbound trips only. Instead of starting their trips west on South Water from Columbus, #6 buses will operate west from 360 East Randolph to State, where they will return to their regular routes southbound on State. Northbound buses will continue to use Michigan to Wacker.
#22 Clark buses will be detoured off Clark southbound via Kinzie, LaSalle and Lake back to Clark. Northbound buses will continue operating on Dearborn.
#37 Sedgwick/Ogden buses northbound on Franklin will turn east at Washington, go north on LaSalle, and take Grand west to Orleans before proceeding north over the regular route. Southbound buses will continue to use Wells.
#125 Water Tower Express buses northbound on Canal will turn east at Washington, go north on LaSalle to Ohio, and east on Ohio over the regular route. Southbound buses will continue to operate south on Wells to Randolph, west on Randolph to Clinton, and south on Clinton over the regular route.
Buses on the #24 Wentworth route, which formerly ended their trips downtown at Wacker and Clark, will continue their current detour via Dearborn, Randolph, LaSalle and Lake back to Clark.
?As the Wacker project moves ahead," said CTA President Frank Kruesi, "we will continue to make sure bus detours required by the reconstruction work will minimize any inconvenience for our customers. We appreciate their patience as we make the changes that are needed to keep our buses operating smoothly around the construction zones."
