Three CTA 'L' lines are being affected by the water main break at Wells and Quincy Streets, which halted service in both directions at that location.
Until full service can be restored, Brown Line trains that normally operate southbound on Wells and around the outer Loop will turn east from Wells at Lake and make all stops east on Lake and south on Wabash to Adams. These trains will then reverse directions south of the Loop and return to the regular route northbound on Wabash at Adams.
Orange Line trains, which normally enter the Loop westbound on Van Buren from Wabash, will continue north on Wabash and west on Lake. After serving the Clark/Lake station, Orange Line trains will turn south onto Wells and make a final stop at Washington/Wells (northbound platform) before reversing directions and returning to the regular route to Midway via Wells, Lake and Wabash.
Purple Line Express trains, which normally operate around the Loop during rush periods, will not run south of Howard until further notice. Purple Line Express riders are advised to take Red Line trains to Howard, where they can connect to Purple Line service north to Linden. Extra Red Line service will be added to accommodate Purple Line riders during rush periods.
CTA buses that use Adams through the Loop westbound and Jackson eastbound are operating over their regular routes. Rush period buses on the #37 Sedgwick/Ogden route, which normally operate south on Wells to Harrison, will go south on Wells to Adams, west on Adams to Wacker, and south on Wacker before returning to the regular route westbound at Harrison.
Free shuttle buses will provide supplemental service for customers affected by the changes until midnight Monday, and resuming at 5 a.m. Tuesday. With destination signs reading ?Loop Shuttle," the buses will operate as follows:- South on Wells from Kinzie to Wacker, stopping at the Merchandise Mart
- West and south on Wacker, stopping at Washington and at Adams
- East on Jackson, stopping at Franklin, Financial Place, Dearborn and State
- South on State, stopping at Van Buren
- West on Van Buren, stopping at LaSalle
- North on Franklin, stopping at Adams and at Washington
- North on Franklin/Orleans to the Merchandise Mart
Extra Customer Assistants will be at Loop 'L' stops to provide information about service. While Green Line trains will remain on their regular route along the Lake and Wabash portions of the Loop, all CTA customers using 'L' service in the Loop should allow extra travel time to reach their destinations.
