Free bus shuttle service and free transfers back into Roosevelt, 35th/IIT stations will be provided
This weekend, Green Line service between the Roosevelt and 35th-Bronzeville-IIT stations will be temporarily suspended beginning 2 a.m. Saturday, December 13 through 4 a.m. Monday, December 15, to allow crews to continue performing work associated with the construction of the new Cermak-McCormick Place station. Green Line trains will resume normal operations prior to Monday morning rush service.
During this time, free bus shuttles will be provided between the Roosevelt and 35th-Bronzeville-IIT stations as well as free transfers back into the affected rail stations. Customers are encouraged to allow extra travel time.
The full-weekend suspension of service in this area is needed to allow crews to perform track and signal work within the area of the new station.
Additional project work requiring the temporary suspension of rail service between the Roosevelt and 35th-Bronzeville-IIT stations is tentatively scheduled next weekend, Saturday, December 20 and Sunday, December 21, beginning prior to the start of service (1:40 a.m.) and concluding by 11:40 a.m. each day.
The completed Cermak-McCormick Place station will fill a major gap in service between the existing Roosevelt and 35th-Bronzeville-IIT stations and will provide much needed access to rapid transit for neighborhood residents and businesses, including McCormick Place. It will feature modern amenities such as elevators, bike racks, state-of-the-art security, enclosed boarding platforms and three entrances. Work on the $50 million construction project began last fall and is managed by the Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT).
