Reminder: Some Magnetic Stripe Cards Expire this Weekend

December 13, 2013
The CTA reminds customers who are still using magnetic stripe fare cards to check the expiration date stamped on the back of the card. Some customers may have cards that are expiring on December 15, meaning they will no longer work as of 12:01 am on Monday, December 16.

If a customer has an expiring card, they can visit any CTA rail station between now and before 12:01 a.m. Monday, add value to their card, and the vending machine will provide a new magnetic stripe fare card with their previous stored value and the new funds that have been added.

If their card expires, they can visit CTA Customer Service at 567 W. Lake, 2nd floor, Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. to exchange their old card for a new one that will have their fund balance on it.

Customers can also call 1-888-YOUR-CTA, which is also listed on the magnetic stripe card, to arrange for mailing in their card to receive a balance refund on a new magnetic stripe card.
